Welcome!
As we begin a new term for the current officers of The Alliance, I would like to welcome you as a member, a co-worker or as an interested party to our web site.
Please explore what we are doing in our Planning Districts (PD) and our committees. Check out our conference workshops and pictures.
As an introduction to our State Officers, here is a brief bio on each and how they can be reached.
Our Immediate Past-President is Connie Mayes. Cornelia.Mayes@dss.virginia.gov. Connie has many years of experience with The Alliance in the offices of President,
Immediate Past President and Second Vice-President as well serving on numerous committees. As Immediate Past-President her job is to help local PDs stay active
and to help inactive PDs to get back on board. Connie also serves on the Personnel Committee. Connie is a Social Worker with Gloucester County. Connie can be
reached at Gloucester DSS, P.O. Box 1390, Gloucester, VA 23061, Phone - 804.693.1289.
If you are interested in joining a committee, please contact our First Vice-President Lorna Watkins, at Lorna.Watkins@dss.virginia.gov. Lorna is currently a Senior
Service Worker with Danville Social Services. Lorna has many years of experience in the Social Services arena and is also very active in her local PD 12. Connie can
assist you with any questions about the committees such as where and when they meet and what the current focus is for that group. Most of our committees meet
jointly with the League's committees and we meet with state and regional office staff to discuss your job skills and responsibilities. It is important that you
take an interest in these committees, read the minutes on the web site, and talk to the committee members about your concerns. BE a committee member to voice your
concerns. You can reach Lorna at Danville DSS, P.O. Box 3300, Danville, VA 24543--Phone - 434-799-8932
Blair Smith as the Second Vice-President in charge of personnel development. Her biggest task is planning the conferences for our membership each spring and fall.
Under her direction, the Personnel Development Committee plans the workshops for you to attend at the conferences. If you have an interest in a particular topic
for a workshop, you may email Blair at smithb@charlottesville.org. If you have a particular workshop presenter who has impressed you and you feel would be an asset
to our conference, email Blair with that information. Blair is a Child Care Worker with Charlottesville. Blair can be reached at Charlottesville DSS, P.O. Box 911,
Charlottesville, VA 22902, Phone - 434.970.3738.

Child and Family Services Committee. We are glad to have her as part of our team. Her email address is Tonya.Christian@dss.virginia.gov
I have served as Second Vice President of The Alliance and planned the state conferences for 2 years. What an experience! I have had the privilege of meeting many
co-workers in that position and I know first hand that we do have many volunteers in our organization. I have served on the Marketing Committee, the Child Welfare
Committee, attended Legislative meetings, testified in the General Assembly for bills, and served as my PD President for 6 years. My job is Social Work Supervisor
with King William County and I have been employed in Richmond City and in King and Queen County in past years.
As you can see, your Executive Board is a talented and eclectic mix with skills in many areas and years of experience. We look forward to serving you in our positions.
We need your help and input to make it work. Remember, The Alliance...The Power to Make it Happen...power comes from being united and having a voice. It is your
organization and we must all work together.
If you have questions about The Alliance, whether it is about membership, committee service, conferences or anything that comes up while you are doing your job that
you feel The Alliance should be taking a look at, please feel free to contact me at amitchell@kingwilliamcounty.us. The Alliance is working for you.
Anne M. Michell, President

The Alliance is interested in maintaining a roster of retired local agency social workers who would be interested in working part time in local
agencies after retirement. We have some directors who are very interested in hiring retired workers to help when there are vacancies. If you
are getting ready for retirement and would like to be on this roster, please email your contact information including the program areas you have
worked in to amitchell@kingwilliamcounty.us. If you know of retirees who might be interested,
please have them email their contact information as well. Thank you.
