SW Licensure comment information. Very important - response needed by Jan. 5th 2009.
Enclosed is the report that was completed by the State Board of Social Work regarding SW licensure.
We are in the process of putting together a group to look at these proposals and how they will affect
the VADSS social workers. Please read them and pass them on to other social workers in your agency
and in neighboring agencies who may not be members. Please encourage your non-member friends to join
The Alliance and work with us to make sure we get the proper title insurance for VDSS social workers.
As you read this report, please remember that:
1. This is a proposal from the state Board of Social Work.
2. The proposal will be up for public comment in December 2008
3. Then someone has to approach a member of the General Assembly and request a bill
4. Normal process of General Assembly and Governor has to sign the bill
So, it is a long way from implementation but will make monumental changes in how we are staffed within our Department.
As the proposal is being interpreted at the end of three years all people called and doing social work
would need to have a SW degree (BSW or MSW) and be licensed. Licensing is achieved by making application
with the Board of Social Work and taking and passing the SW licensure test.
